Curious George's Tail
Many people remember Curious George having a tail, but the character has never been depicted with one in any official book or adaptation.
The Memory
Curious George had a long prehensile tail that he used to hang from things. He's a monkey — of course he had a tail.
Current Reality
In every book by H.A. Rey and Margaret Rey, and in every TV adaptation, Curious George has no tail. This is actually anatomically consistent — he's drawn as an ape (chimpanzee), not a monkey.
Significance
The assumption that "monkey = tail" may drive this false memory. But many people who grew up with the books report specifically remembering seeing the tail in illustrations.
